Despite the restrictions imposed on us all in an effort to combat Covid-19, the Trust has continued to operate as normally as possible to support the many worthy projects and organisations that have sought our help. Through technology, our Project Committee has continued to meet regularly but remotely to consider the grant applications received via our website.
Here we outline a number of the projects we have been able to support during the last six months.
Inner City Helping Homeless: Our recent donation enabled this organisation to continue supporting and advocating for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and/or living on the margins during Covid-19.
Homework Clubs and Exam Grinds. The Trust has continued to support these activities through East Wall Community Centre. These clubs and grinds have proved valuable in helping local students to achieve strong grades and move on to third level education.
Ballybough/Nth Strand Local History Group: Our contribution to this voluntary group has assisted in ensuring that the rich history, culture and heritage of the area is documented, publicised and passed on to the next generation.
Chancery House Community Organisation: We have recently supported a Summer project comprising arts, crafts, nature walks etc which will benefit 40 children and 50 senior citizens in the Chancery House/Ormond Square area.
Charleville Mall Art Group is a group of Senior Citizens engaged in art under the direction of a qualified instructor. This is an important social outlet for the members who regularly display their work at Charleville Mall Library.
Barnardo’s Children’s’ Bereavement Service: Among the lesser known services provided locally by Barnardo’s is the Children’s Bereavement Service, the main focus of which is children whose parent or sibling has died. Barnardos Children’s Bereavement Service supports parents and carers to respond to the needs of bereaved children, while also providing direct therapeutic support to the child or children. Each year they work with 170+ families. The Trust has supported this important project by providing funding for the refurbishment of premises in Buckingham Street.
St. Andrew’s Resource Centre: The Trust has supported this organisation for many years and has recently contributed towards increasing costs of providing meals and food vouchers to families struggling to cope in the current uncertain environment.
